WHAT IS AN EPIDURAL STEROID INJECTION?

An epidural steroid injection is a standard procedure to treat pain and inflammation of spinal nerve roots or other conditions causing pressure on the nerve root. A steroid is injected into the epidural space through the middle of the spine. The injection will reduce the swelling of the nerves and decrease the nerve root irritation.
