WHAT IS A HIP INJECTION?

A hip injection is used for pain management and diagnostic purposes. It is used to reduce inflammation in the hip joint, which causes pain, and it is also used to diagnose if the hip joint is the source of your pain. If you don’t get relief from the hip injection, the source of your pain is likely originating from a different part of your body. It is not meant to cure the problem or disease that is present.

WHAT IS INJECTED?

An anesthetic is injected into the hip joint or bursa. If your physician feels it would be beneficial, a corticosteroid can be combined with the anesthetic to prolong the effects of the injection.

WHAT CAUSES PAIN IN YOUR HIP?

Hip pain is usually caused by osteoarthritis, bursitis, disease or injury to the hip.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A HIP INJECTION?

A medication is injected to reduce the inflammation or irritation of the hip joint or bursa, causing your pain.

HOW IS THE HIP INJECTION PERFORMED?

These injections are performed outpatient, using fluoroscopy (X-ray) to guide the needle into the hip joint or bursa. Hip injections help with your pain and are not always intended as a cure for the underlying condition.

*Your injection day will be scheduled by Agape Pain Management and Lifestyle Center. Las Cruces Surgical Center sets up the time for the injection, and you will be called the day before your injection by Las Cruces Surgical Center and notified of the time for your injection. The Las Cruces Surgical Center nurses will contact you to go over your medical history and pre-procedure instructions before your injection. Please arrive for your injection at the time specified by Las Cruces Surgical Center. YourYou’re follow-up after your injection will be scheduled by Agape Pain Management and Lifestyle Center four weeks after your injection.
